Testing the Benefits of Meditation… in the Emergency Room

by Mahala Mazerov · 13 comments

We read a lot about the benefits of meditation. But the true test may come in times of trauma. Here’s how meditation transformed a severe fall and a trip to the emergency room into an experience of mindful awareness.

Thanks, Jennifer. Right now I keep focusing on the bruise under my eye. It makes me feel like one of those Picasso paintings, eyes in the “wrong” place.

But I am excited to do more video. I know I’m always delighted by yours.

I’m so sorry about the fall, and so amazed at how you were able to meditate in the moment to deal with it. I won’t go into details, but what you said in your video is so very synchronous with stuff going on in my own life, my experiences with meditation practice, and questions about how to bring it into more spheres in my life. I’m very interested in your new program. I hope you feel better soon!

Becky, thanks for your comment. I have to admit I have a concern that the video (and blog as a whole) is too much me, me, me. I’m really grateful that you’re making a connection with things in your own life.

I hope the synchronicity doesn’t mean you’re going through challenging times.

Oh, my goodness! I’m sending my very best wishes for your healing and safety–how scary (and yet how marvelous, to discover something so positive in the midst of awfulness)!

Melynda, it was scary and marvelous. It’s given me confidence that my practice is always with me, in a way I didn’t have before.

Thanks for your healing wishes.

Have a nice day Mahala.
I hope you will be soon well.
Thank for the nice information.
I don’t have much time these days
because I am going to work in the morning time.
I am glad to hear and see you on the video.
All the best Mahala.

I am so sorry to hear about your fall, and that you are on the mend.

I had a similar thing happen to me in Chiang Mai this winter. No idea how, or why I hit the pavement. I remember being in the emergency room and using my breath to calm myself.

Do feel better soon!

Mahala,

I’ve just happened on your blog. I’m sorry that one as gentle and loving as you was visited with extra pain. And good for you for using it as an opportunity for growing.

You have an unusually unarmored and compassionate voice and spirit. Thank you for your good and kind work.
